Studio attire

Students have required attire, shoes, and hairstyles for their classes. For a full list of attire/shoe/hair requirements for each genre, CLICK HERE to download the document.

NOTE: We are listing basic styles for dancers. 

The styles listed for bodysuits are just suggestions, any style is acceptable. Preference for skirts for All Levels – please do not have it attached to the bodysuit, instead, buy a separate skirt that is removable and sheer.

FEMALE  PRESENTING: 

  • All levels of Tap and Jazz: Students are encouraged to buy Black bodysuits if planning on doing an exam with light tan beige tights. Older jazz dancers may be required to purchase black tights with black jazz shoes.
  • All levels of Ballet/Pointe: Students are encouraged to buy Ink Blue, Navy preferably with no visible bra straps and Salmon tights.

MALE  PRESENTING:  

  • All levels and genres: Students are encouraged to wear a white t-shirt and black shorts or tighter fitting dance leggings/pants and mid-calf black socks. We encourage older dancers to please invest in a dance belt.

NON-BINARY:

Tighter fitting type of dance clothing as per listed in each genre.

HAIR: The preferred style is a ballet bun (pancake bun). Hair in a ponytail, with loose hair pinned off of the face is acceptable except for ballet.  Braided hair is not recommended when doing any turning.

Dance Style

All levels of Ballet/RAD Baller Syllabus/Recreational/Adult, Demi-Pointe
  • Hair: secure ballet pancake bun made with hairpins and a hair net. Messy buns held with only an elastic or scrunchie are not acceptable. Short hair securely pinned back and off of the face.  Students are responsible for their own supplies. 
  • Female Presenting:
    • Black, Navy or Ink Blue bodysuit. NO crop tops. NO pyjama pants or shorts
    • Sheer Skirts are optional
    • All levels will wear Salmon tights.
  • Male Presenting: 
    • White t-shirt, black jazz pant, leggings or shorts, white socks
  • Non-Binary: 
    • Bodysuit & tights, dance shorts and tight fitting t-shirt & tights/socks

Demi-Pointe

  • Female Presenting: Pink
    • Leather or canvas ballet slipper
    • Convertible Tights to access bare feet
  • Male Presenting: Black
    • Leather or canvas ballet slipper
    • Removable socks or convertible tights to access bare feet
  • Non-Binary:
    • Leather or Canvas Ballet Slipper in your choice of colour
  • Pointe Shoes:
    • A well fitted pointe shoe, suitable to each individual – it is recommended that students have their teachers present to fit their first pair at Dance Street. Students will not purchase pointe shoes until the class teacher tells them they are ready to do so.
All levels of Jazz/CDTA Syllabus Class/Recreational Jazz/Adult/Novice Foundations/He Dances Too/Enrichment
  • Hair:
    • Hair in a ponytail or bun, short hair securely pinned back and off of the face. Braided hair is not recommended when doing any type of turning.
  • Female Presenting:
    • Any style bodysuit and light tan tights. NO crop tops. No pyjama pants. Jazz shorts are optional
  • Male identifying:
    • T-shirt, jazz pants, leggings or shorts, socks
  • Non-Binary:
    • Bodysuit & tights or dance shorts and t-shirt & tights/socks
  • Note:
    • Acro and Enrichment will need access to bare feet so convertible or capri tights are required for those classes. Capri tights are needed for competition.  
All levels of Tap/Syllabus Class/Recreational Tap/Adult
  • Hair:
    • Hair in a ponytail, short hair securely pinned back and off of the face. Braided hair is not recommended when performing any type of turning.
  • Female Presenting:
    • Any style bodysuit and light tan tights. NO crop tops or pyjama pants. Jazz shorts of sheer skirts are optional.

Acro - Recreational and Competitive
  • Hair:
    • Hair in a ponytail, short hair securely pinned back and off of the face. Braided hair is not recommended when doing any turning. Long hair in a ponytail may get in the way when trying tumbling that requires being on the hands, so a low bun is recommended. Need access to bare feet.
  • Female Presenting:
    • Any style bodysuit and light tan tights. (recommended convertibel or capri). Jazz shorts and optional. No crop tops or pyjama pants.
  • Male Presenting:
    • T-shirt, jazz pants, leggings or shorts, socks
  • Non-Binary:
    • Bodysuit & tights, dance shorts and t-shirt & tights/socks
  • Note:
    • Will need access to bare feet
Hip Hop
  • Hair:
    • Hair in a ponytail, short hair securely pinned back and off of the face
  • Male & Female Presenting & Non-Binary:
    • Comfortable loose fitting clothing such as leggings, sewat pants, t-shirts, etc. No jeans. No crop tops, or pyjama pants.
Contemporary/Lyrical
  • Hair: 
    • Hair in a ponytail, short hair securely pinned back and off of the face. Braided hair is not recommended when doing any turning.
  • Female Presenting: 
    • Any style bodysuit and light tan convertible or capri tights. NO crop tops or pyjama pants. Jazz shorts or sheer skirts are optional
  • Male Presenting:
    • T-shirt, jazz pants, leggings or shorts, socks
  • Non-Binary:
    • Bodysuit & tights, dance shorts and t-shirt & tights/socks
  • Note:
    • Will need access to bare feet.
Spark Preschool
  • Male & Female Presenting, Non-Binary:
    • Comfortable loose fitting clothing.
Mini-Stars
  • Female Presenting: Any style bodysuit and light tan tights. Jazz shorts or sheer skirts are optional.
  • Male Presenting: T-shirt, jazz pants, leggings or shorts, socks
  • Non-Binary: Bodysuit & tights, dance shorts and t-shirt & tights/socks
Drama & Vocal

Includes: One Act Wonders, ACT-ivate, Improv Club, Moves & Moods, Voices & Vibes, Vocal Variations

  • All students:
    • Attire: 
      • Comfortable loose fitting clothing such as leggings, sweat pants, t-shirts etc. – no jeans, NO crop tops or pyjama pants.
    • Hair: 
      • Hair up in a ponytail and pinned off of face
    • Footwear:
      • Clean indoor shoes (never worn outside)
      • *Vocal Variations can wear Jazz Oxfords
Musical Theatre (All Levels)
  • Female Presenting:
    • Any style bodysuit and Mondor light tan tights. No jeans or crop tops. Jazz shorts or sheer skirts are optional
  • Male Presenting:
    • T-shirt, jazz pants, leggings or shorts, socks
  • Non-Binary:
    • Bodysuit & tights or dance shorts and t-shirt & tights/socks. No jeans, pjs, or crop tops.
  • Hair:
    • Hair MUST be in a low ponytail, bun, or braids. Short hair securely pinned back and off of the face. Braided hair is not recommended when doing turning.
