COMPETITIVE CLASSES
Our competitive program provides comprehensive and dynamic training with a strong focus on technique, performance, and teamwork. It’s designed for students seeking a more challenging environment or those preparing for future growth in the performing arts.
Led by our experienced instructors, the program incorporates elements from the Canadian Dance Teachers Association (CDTA), Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), and Acrobatic Arts syllabi. Dancers benefit from innovative instruction, engaging choreography, and the opportunity to pursue technical exams.
Competitive students attend weekly classes, participate in three local competitions, and perform in our year-end recital in June. They may also be eligible for solos, duos, or trios in the dance styles they are enrolled in. In addition, dancers can join our studio’s Production—a large-scale musical theatre number featuring current students, teachers, and alumni.
An attendance policy is in effect for our competitive program. Please see our Info & FAQ page for more information.
The following will be taken into consideration when placing students in competitive classes:
- Dedication in attending classes and competitions
- Dedication in dressing appropriately for dance class
- Physical and mental ability of the student to progress in the grade (Some students grow really fast and might need an extra year in a certain discipline, and some students need an extra year to develop mentally and socially to progress in the grades)

Inspired by broadway and classic theatre, our musical theatre classes combine the fundamentals of character development, acting and vocal technique, and stylized dance, providing young performers with a dynamic introduction to the performing arts. Our class strategy for younger students integrates singing and dancing with creative exercises that foster imagination, motor skill development, confidence, and musicality. Older classes experience comprehensive triple threat training by learning vocal technique, stylized dance/movement, as well as acting techniques. Ballet is the foundation for dance technique and development. Classes will incorporate choreography with barre work, technique, and exercises to build core strength, flexibility, and fluidity through movement. Technique classes will incorporate Royal Academy of Dance (RAD Training) with the opportunity for students to complete exams at the appropriate level. More information about exams will be sent home in September. Registration in the technique class is not registration for an exam. We encourage students to take the class and training regardless of whether they wish to do the exams. All classes take part in pictures and the year-end recitals.
