TINY TOTS

Our signature summer day camp, Tiny Tots, provides an exciting, unique, and imaginative introduction to dance and theatre for preschoolers ages 3-6. Introductory lessons in different styles of song and dance are combined with educational activities, imagination-based learning techniques, storytelling, and play to provide children with an engagging introduction to the arts. With several themes to choose from, each Tiny Tots camp is designed to be playful and fun — find one (or a few!) that best suites your preschooler. 

All camps will end with a celebratory in-person or virtual showcase, depending on guidelines from health authorities. All participants will receive an official SaskExpress certificate of completion.  

JUNIOR SERIES

Introducing our newest summer day camp, the Junior Series! Designed for children between the ages of 7 and 12, each Junior Series camp is tailored to provide an integrated introduction to dance, song, and theatre. Welcome to Wonderland combines mini lessons in different styles of dance with imaginative themes, fun-filled crafts, outdoor time, and more, while Popstar Performer offers campers 8-12 with the opportunity to star in their very own music video.

Tiny Tots (June Session): Jungle Adventure

Hakuna matata! In this jungle edition of our Tiny Tots series, preschoolers will explore the performing arts in combination with animal themed crafts and activities. An action-packed adventure awaits!

 

Encouraging the development of musicality and physical literacy, Jungle Adventure provides an engaging and encouraging environment for the preschooler who's wild at heart. Inspired by some of the most popular jungle-themed storybooks and movies, campers will experience themed lessons that transport their imaginations from into the wild to under the sea. 

 

Who: Preschoolers ages 3-6

When: June 21-25 from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Throughout the week, the Tiny Tots will take mini classes in jazz, tap/rhythm, musical theatre, hip hop, ballet, and acro. 

What other activities are offered through the Tiny Tots program?

Dance lessons are interspersed with arts and crafts, outdoor play, snack time, and educational activities, such as reading and science experiments. This camp's activities will be animal themed, featuring our favourite jungle characaters! 

What is the required attire for the camp?

  • Girls: Bodysuit and tights, or a fitted shirt and leggings

  • Boys: Comfortable pants or shorts with a fitted t-shirt

  • Shoes: Jazz shoes (preferably slip on) or ballet slippers. Tap shoes are an asset, but are not required. 

  • Other: Children should also bring a water bottle, outdoor shoes, sunscreen, and mosquito spray each day. A daily snack is provided, but campers are welcome to pack supplementary snacks. 

What health and safety precautions will you be taking?

 

Distancing and sanitization protocols will be implemented to ensure Tiny Tots is safe for our students, staff, and community. As a result, space is limited, and we encourage you to sign-up early to save your spot. 

Tiny Tots (July Session): Once Upon a Time

Happy endings, magic wishes, and even a few of your favourite fishes. Join us for 5 days of magic with our Fairytale-inspired Tiny Tots!

 

Themed after a different fairytale each day, this edition of Tiny Tots combines glass slippers, magic carpets, and a little extra pixie dust for a week of fantasy. Campers will create a special storybook to showcase their crafts and activities from the week, alongside experiencing royal dress up days, stuffie show and tells, and more! 

 

Who: Preschoolers ages 3-6

When: July 19-23 from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

For the first time in forever, our Frozen-inspired Tiny Tots is back! Themed after the hit movie, experience an enchanting 5 days filled with snowmen, ice castles, and maybe even a few reindeer. 

 

Inspired by the Frozen sequel, this edition of Tiny Tots is designed for imaginative preschoolers who love Frozen just as much as Olaf loves warm hugs. Join us on an exciting adventure through the world of Arendelle with themed dance lessons, sing-a-longs, storytelling exercises, and crafts. 

 

Who: Preschoolers ages 3-6

When: August 23-27 from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Welcome to Wonderland, a fantasy filled day camp for children ages 7-10! 

 

With an integrated approach to dancing, singing, and story-telling, this camp offers a creative and engaging experience themed after the adventures of Wonderland. In addition to themed crafts, activities, and science experiments, campers will explore introductory lessons to different styles of dance. Join us for a fun-filled adventure down the rabbit hole as we explore imagination, movement, and more.

Lights, camera, action! Can you imagine yourself as a singer and dancer in a hit upcoming music video?

 

Featuring current trending music, Popstar Performer is a dynamic summer day camp designed for aspiring performers ages 8-12. With lessons in singing, movement, and acting, this camp will end with the production of a recorded track and music video, starring the one and only you! Including lessons in acting and improv, this camp offers a unique and modern twist on performing arts, encouraging the development of confidence and musicality. No prior experience is required — all levels are welcome.

 

Who: Children ages 8-12

When: August 9-13 from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Popstar Performer will include the introduction of music-video inspired movement, based on jazz and hip hop.

Music will be themed after age-appropriate top hits!

  • Boys: Comfortable pants or shorts with a fitted t-shirt

Progressing Ballet Technique: Short & Sweet Sessional

Designed for students at the RAD (Royal Academy of Dance) grades 2 - 5 level, this 4-week sessional class in progressing ballet technique (PBT) will help dancers to develop muscle memory for enhancing their ballet vocabulary and foundation. PBT training also promotes injury prevention, posture, and weight placement for the continued development of a technically strong, safe dancer. 

PBT is a body-conditioning and strengthening program designed to improve dancers' technique through the awareness, understanding, and development of muscle memory. Different exercises are combined with the use of equipment to build alignment and activation of appropriate muscle groups. 

Who: This class is designed for dancers at the RAD grades 2 - 5 level. It is strongly encouraged for competitive dancers to maintain training over the summer months.

When: Mondays from 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm; July 5 - 26

Where: SaskExpress Studio (2272 Pasqua Street)

Price: $90 (includes an exercise ball for every dancer that they will keep at the conclusion of the program)

What are the benefits of PBT?

PBT uses muscle-memory training to assist dancers in the development of stronger technique and safer practices. Known for its positive impact on athletic performance, PBT is incorporated in the training of dancers to football players, and is currently being used at over 3,500 dance schools worldwide.

What will I learn in PBT?

This PBT class will train muscle memory specifically related to:

  • Activating turnout
  • Enhancing adagio movements
  • Improving technique related to allegro and batterie
  • Developing an understanding of safe jump landings

Do I need any equipment?

PBT uses an exercise ball. This is included in tuition, and will be provided to each dancer on the first day of class. 

Aspiring Actors: Acting & Audition Prep Camp

Interested in learning acting technique, improv skills, and audition prep tricks? Designed for aspiring actors, this summer day camp is designed to provide young performers with individualized coaching and expertise in perfecting a monologue and building audition confidence. 

Best suited for performers ages 8-16, our acting and audition prep camp is designed to help performers discover new acting and storytelling techniques, build confidence onstage, and apply audition feedback. Participants are asked to come to the camp with a selected and prepared monologue. During the week, performers will work on their monologues through a variety of acting and improv exercises, ending in a final mock audition experience.

Who: Aspiring actors ages 8-16

When: July 24 -28 from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
