TINY TOTS

Our signature summer day camp, Tiny Tots, provides an exciting, unique, and imaginative introduction to dance and theatre for preschoolers ages 3-6. Introductory lessons in different styles of song and dance are combined with educational activities, imagination-based learning techniques, storytelling, and play to provide children with an engagging introduction to the arts. With several themes to choose from, each Tiny Tots camp is designed to be playful and fun — find one (or a few!) that best suites your preschooler. 

All camps will end with a celebratory showcase. All participants will receive an official SaskExpress certificate of completion.  

JUNIOR SERIES

Introducing our newest set of day camps, the Junior Series! Designed for children between the ages of 7 and 12, each Junior Series camp is tailored to provide an integrated introduction to dance, song, and theatre. Welcome to Wonderland combines mini lessons in different styles of dance with imaginative themes, fun-filled crafts, outdoor time, and more, while Popstar Performer offers campers 8-12 with the opportunity to star in their very own music video. 

WILLY WONKA JUNIOR: THE MUSICAL

Aspiring performers ages 8-16 are invited to join this summer's cast of the Mini Express & The Expressions for their live musical production of Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka Junior!  In this two-week program, cast members will train in all elements of the performing arts, ending with a run of live shows in our studio theatre. All participants will audition for placement; both singing and dancing roles are available. We're excited to return to live theatre with this unique opportunity for aspiring performers in our community!

Regina Summer Programs 2021

Tiny Tots (July Session): Once Upon a Time

Happy endings, magic wishes, and even a few of your favourite fishes. Join us for 5 days of magic with our Fairytale-inspired Tiny Tots!

 

Themed after a different fairytale each day, this edition of Tiny Tots combines glass slippers, magic carpets, and a little extra pixie dust for a week of fantasy. Campers will create a special storybook to showcase their crafts and activities from the week, alongside experiencing royal dress up days, stuffie show and tells, and more! 

 

Who: Preschoolers ages 3-6

When: July 19-23 from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM 

Where: SaskExpress Studio (2272 Pasqua Street)

Price: $200; payment charged on the first day of the program

What styles of dance are taught during Tiny Tots?

Throughout the week, the Tiny Tots will take mini classes in jazz, tap/rhythm, musical theatre, hip hop, ballet, and acro. 

What other activities are offered through the Tiny Tots program?

Dance lessons are interspersed with arts and crafts, outdoor play, snack time, and educational activities, such as reading and science experiments. Each day's activities will be themed after a different fairytale! 

What is the required attire for the camp?

  • Girls: Bodysuit and tights, or a fitted shirt and leggings

  • Boys: Comfortable pants or shorts with a fitted t-shirt

  • Shoes: Jazz shoes (preferably slip on) or ballet slippers. Tap shoes are an asset, but are not required. 

  • Other: Children should also bring a water bottle, outdoor shoes, sunscreen, and mosquito spray each day. A daily snack is provided, but campers are welcome to pack supplementary snacks. 

What health and safety precautions will you be taking?

 

Distancing and sanitization protocols will be implemented to ensure Tiny Tots is safe for our students, staff, and community. As a result, space is limited, and we encourage you to sign-up early to save your spot. 

 

Tiny Tots (August Session): Into the Unknown

For the first time in forever, our Frozen-inspired Tiny Tots is back! Themed after the hit movie, experience an enchanting 5 days filled with snowmen, ice castles, and maybe even a few reindeer. 

 

Inspired by the Frozen sequel, this edition of Tiny Tots is designed for imaginative preschoolers who love Frozen just as much as Olaf loves warm hugs. Join us on an exciting adventure through the world of Arendelle with themed dance lessons, sing-a-longs, storytelling exercises, and crafts. 

 

Who: Preschoolers ages 3-6

When: August 23-27 from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Welcome to Wonderland, a fantasy filled day camp for children ages 7-10! 

 

With an integrated approach to dancing, singing, and story-telling, this camp offers a creative and engaging experience themed after the adventures of Wonderland. In addition to themed crafts, activities, and science experiments, campers will explore introductory lessons to different styles of dance. Join us for a fun-filled adventure down the rabbit hole as we explore imagination, movement, and more.

 

The camp will end with a celebratory in-person or virtual showcase, depending on guidelines from health authorities. All participants will receive an official SaskExpress certificate of completion.

 

Who: Children ages 7-10

When: July 12-16 from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Lights, camera, action! Can you imagine yourself as a singer and dancer in a hit upcoming music video?

 

Featuring current trending music, Popstar Performer is a dynamic summer day camp designed for aspiring performers ages 8-12. With lessons in singing, movement, and acting, this camp will end with the production of a recorded track and music video, starring the one and only you! Including lessons in acting and improv, this camp offers a unique and modern twist on performing arts, encouraging the development of confidence and musicality. No prior experience is required — all levels are welcome.

 

Who: Children ages 8-12

When: August 9-13 from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Aspiring Actors: Acting & Audition Prep Camp

Interested in learning acting technique, improv skills, and audition prep tricks? Designed for aspiring actors, this summer day camp is designed to provide young performers with individualized coaching and expertise in perfecting a monologue and building audition confidence. 

Best suited for performers ages 8-16, our acting and audition prep camp is designed to help performers discover new acting and storytelling techniques, build confidence onstage, and apply audition feedback. Participants are asked to come to the camp with a selected and prepared monologue. During the week, performers will work on their monologues through a variety of acting and improv exercises, ending in a final mock audition experience.

Who: Aspiring actors ages 8-16

When: July 24 -28 from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Willy Wonka Junior: A Minis & Expressions Production

Ready to find a golden ticket? Aspiring performers ages 8-16 are invited to join this summer's cast of the Mini Express & The Expressions for their live production of Willy Wonka Junior! 

In this 2-week program, cast members will train in all elements of the performing arts to produce a live musical! In this enchanting fantasty, five lucky children will receive a tour of Willy Wonka's magical candy factory. But first, they must find a golden ticket hidden in one of his delicious candy bars. Taking audiences on an imaginative, extra sweet, and charming adventure, the show features the stories of different characters as they learn to follow the rules of Willy Wonka's candy factory — or face some unusual consequences.

  • Who: Aspiring performers ages 8-16! Everyone who registers will be part of the show. After submitting your registration, you will receive a follow-up email with an audition form. All cast members will audition for cast placement in July; lead and ensemble roles will be cast. The auditions are exciting, positive, and interactive — audition experience is a very valuable learning opportunity for aspiring performers! 
  • When: August 16 - 29. Rehearsals will take place 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM on weekdays from August 16 - 27. Additional weekend rehearsal time may be required for lead roles the weeked of August 21-22, pending availability. Live ticketed shows will take place August 27 - 29. More information on show times and ticket purchasing will be availale upon registration.
  • Where: SaskExpress Studio (2272 Pasqua Street)
  • Price: $495 inclusive of all rehearsal and performance time; charged on the first day of rehearsal. Costume fees are TBD depending on the requirements of each role and will be invoiced to each performer separately.

Do I need experience to audition?

No! The Minis & Expressions is our signature junior performing group intended to provide all performers with high quality, dynamic, and versatile training within the performing arts. Roles will be cast to best suit each performer's level of experience, interest, and comfort (at the discretion of the Minis & Expressions directors).

Do I have to sing and dance? What if I just want to do one?

Performers can choose to audition as a singer, dancer, or combination of both. All cast members will receive triple threat (singing, dancing, and acting) training and exposure throughout the program, but will be featured in the area(s) they choose to audition in.

What do I have to do for my audition?

Singers will perform a song, and dancers will perform a dance routine. All cast members will prepare a provided monologue and attend a callback. Full audition details will be provided in your audition form that will be sent after your registration is submitted.

What should I wear to rehearsals?

All performers should wear comfortable clothing that allows for easy movement (no jeans please). Hair should be styled off the face. Dancers should bring jazz shoes; alternative footwear may be discussed during costuming.

What should I bring to rehearsals?

Performers should bring a binder, pencil, water bottle, lunch, and healthy snacks to every rehearsal.
